I won a National Advertising Award!

The John Waters covers I did for LOGOTV went on to compete at the American Advertising Awards and I won a silver award! It was a huge honor to be one of the entries from Hawaii (less than 20 qualified!) and an even greater honor to know that my work was probably the queerest thing on the awards stage that night! Queer representation means a lot to me, so to think about DIVINE being shown to the top advertising agencies in the US makes me happy!

The American Advertising Federation (AAF), headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the oldest national advertising trade association in the United States. The American Advertising Awards, formerly the ADDYs, is the advertising industry largest and most representative competition attracting over 32,000 entries nationwide this year.

Selection of the most creative entry in each category is affected by a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A Gold ADDY Award is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence in that tier of competition. Out of 32,000 National entries entered this year, just 78 National Gold ADDYs and 175 National Silver ADDYs were awarded on Friday, June 7, 2019 at The Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.

The AAF’s members are comprised of over 100 corporate members which are advertisers, advertising agencies, and media companies; a national network of nearly 200 local federations, representing 40,000 advertising professionals, located across the country; and more than 200 AAF college chapters, with over 6,500 student members.

The Pele Awards, a part of the American Advertising Awards, is one of 15 District Competitions across the United States.  The American Advertising Federation – District 13 – also known as AAF District 13 is the parent organization for AAF-Hawaii and Ad 2 Honolulu, all 501c6 non- profit trade organizations that represents Advertising in the State of Hawaii.  AAF-Hawaii is for
professionals 32 years and older; Ad 2 Honolulu for young professionals and students 32 years old and younger.

The Award itself is a very serious 5 lb. metal and glass award, it’s sitting comfortably on my desk to remind me of the hard work.

Thank you to the folks at the AAF District 13 for all their help during the awards season!
